FDA campus reopened after brief lockdown
The Food and Drug Administration’s campus in Silver Spring, Md., received the all clear after a brief lockdown this morning.
FDA spokeswoman Heidi Rebello confirmed in an emailed statement that the lockdown came as a precaution, after an “unauthorized weapon” was found in a locked car.
“There have been no acts of violence and at no time were employees in imminent danger,” she added. “A person of interest has been identified and is cooperating with law enforcement. “
The Montgomery County Police Department tweeted that it responded to calls at the FDA but quickly discovered that “no shooting had occurred.”
The FDA is now back to normal operations, and the lockdown is lifted.
