Immigration, Ferguson to dominate Sunday

President Obama’s recently unveiled executive order on immigration will dominate the Sunday show discussions, along with speculation about a possible indictment against a police officer in Ferguson, Mo.

Obama will give an exclusive interview on ABC’s “This Week” defending his immigration policies from Republican attacks. Meanwhile, Republicans will take to the other Sunday shows in criticizing the proposals.

{mosads}Obama announced executive orders earlier this week that allow for undocumented workers to apply for delayed deportation, and he directed law enforcement officials to direct deportation efforts to those with criminal records. The policies impact five million undocumented workers.

Republicans have criticized the proposals as government overreach and have publicly mulled ways in which they could stop the administration from implementing such action.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) will likely continue with that criticism during his appearance on Fox News Sunday. The likely 2016 GOP presidential candidate and Tea Party favorite could offer clues for how conservatives will tackle the implementation issue.

Elsewhere, Obama will have Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) defending his policies during Durbin’s appearance on CBS’s “Face the Nation.”

Aside from immigration, Ferguson will also dominate the political roundtables. A Grand Jury in Ferguson could rule any day about whether authorities will indict Darren Wilson, the police officer who fatally shot Michael Brown, an unarmed African American teenager on Aug. 9. Wilson has maintained that he was acting in self-defense.

Brown’s family attorney Anthony Gray will appear on NBC’s “Meet the Press;” and NAACP President Cornell William Brooks will appear on CBS’s “Face the Nation.”

Here’s who you will hear from on Sunday morning:

NBC’s “Meet the Press”: Sens. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) and Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) will discuss the administration’s immigration proposals.

Former GOP New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani; former Shell Oil CEO John Hofmeister; and author Daniel Yergin will join the program. And Anthony Gray, attorney for Michael Brown’s family, will discuss the possibility of an indictment.

ABC’s “This Week”: President Obama will give an interview on the program that will take up the whole hour.

CBS’s “Face the Nation”: Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) will join Reps. Michael McCaul (R-Texas); Luis Guiterrez (D-Ill.); and Raul Labrador (R-Idaho) to discuss immigration. NAACP President Cornell William Brooks will weigh in on the latest Ferguson developments.

CNN’s “State of the Union”: Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) will discuss immigration. NAACP official Sherrilyn Ifill will discuss Ferguson. And former-Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) could make news about his 2016 aspirations.

“Fox News Sunday”: Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Rep. Xavier Becerra, (D-Calif.) will discuss immigration and the latest political headlines; along with GOP Texas Gov.-elect Greg Abbott.
