Cruz: Block Obama’s nominees next year

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said on Sunday that Congress should block President Obama’s nominations, calling the president’s executive actions on immigration a “wholesale refusal” to follow immigration laws.

{mosads}Cruz criticized Obama’s executive orders, which allow for undocumented workers to apply for delayed deportation. The orders, announced last week, also instruct officials to only direct their deportation efforts to those with criminal records.

Cruz said that Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Nev.), who will become the Senate majority leader in the next Congress in January, should refuse to bring to the floor any nomination other than those vital to national security.

“We should use the constitutional checks and balances we have to rein in this abuse of power,” Cruz said on “Fox News Sunday.” “Essentially, he’s gotten in the job of counterfeiting immigration papers. … This is a wholesale refusal by President Obama to follow our immigration laws.”

Cruz, a potential 2016 presidential candidate, said that Obama is “openly defying Congress.”
