Santorum: Obama ‘slapped’ lawmakers in the face

Former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) on Sunday blasted President Obama for circumventing Congress and taking unilateral action on immigration.

“The president slapped in the face every House and Senate member and said ‘We don’t need you anymore,’” Santorum said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” 

{mosads}“What the president did is opened up Pandora’s box for every president in the future to say ‘Ya know Congress, if you’re not going to work with me, then I’m just going to go and not enforce the law, and in fact go beyond that,’” he added. 

Santorum suggested that Republicans should sue President Obama over the new actions he unveiled last week, and defund the orders.

The former 2012 presidential candidate questioned why Obama didn’t choose to act when Democrats had control of both chambers of Congress between early 2009 and late 2010.

Asked what the GOP plan should be on immigration, Santorum said, “We need immigration control in this country.”

“There has to be an orderly process. Immigration policy should first and foremost care about Americans,” he said, but he didn’t provide a more specific proposal.
