Wife of Rep. Hudson now working for another lawmaker
Renee Hudson, the wife of Rep. Richard Hudson (R-N.C.), is now working as chief of staff to another House Republican, Rep. Todd Rokita.
She became Rokita’s (Ind.) chief of staff this month, according to LegiStorm, which tracks legislative employment data.
{mosads}Hudson has a dizzying web of connections on Capitol Hill after more than a decade of experience, previously serving as chief of staff to former Reps. Ben Quayle (R-Ariz.) and Mark Souder (R-Ind.).
Her employment with Souder was eventful, as the Indiana Republican resigned in May 2010 after revealing that he had an affair with a part-time district staffer. Souder’s resignation came the same day as the Hudsons’ wedding, and while she was still his chief of staff.
Renee Hudson learned of Souder’s affair through anonymous tips and confronted her boss. When he admitted the rumors were true, she brought the matter to House GOP leadership.
Her husband, Richard Hudson, at the time was chief of staff to Rep. Mike Conaway (R-Texas). He worked as a Capitol Hill staffer for four lawmakers over the course of 1999 to 2011 before becoming a member himself in 2013.
Richard Hudson also worked for former Rep. Robin Hayes (R-N.C.) as well as Reps. Virginia Foxx (R-N.C.) and John Carter (R-Texas).
