Obamas end Hawaii vacation with visits to family and friends
President Obama spent a full day visiting family and friends in Hawaii on Saturday before departing for Washington.
{mosads}Obama started the day by joining his daughter, Malia, and friends at the Bellows Air Force Station beach, according to a White House pool report.
His motorcade passed a woman holding a sign saying “Stop NSA Snooping” as it left the president’s vacation home, a reporter traveling with the president noted.
Later in the day, the president and daughters Sasha and Malia briefly visited Punchbowl Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, where the president’s maternal grandfather is buried.
The president and his daughters then visited Maya Soetoro-Ng, Obama’s maternal half-sister.
On his way to that stop, the president’s motorcade passed the Punahou School, Obama’s childhood school.
Late in the afternoon, Obama and his daughters visited Eddie Vedder and his family. The White House described the Pearl Jam frontman as a “friend.”
The president and the first family ended their vacation with dinner with friends at Buzz’s Lanikai, described as a aid-back steakhouse presents a surf ‘n’ turf menu & drinks in a tiki hut-style space.
Air Force One departed Joint Base Pearl Harbor–Hickam early Sunday morning. The first family is expected back at the White House later Sunday morning.
President Obama will push progressive economic policies in a series of speeches this week, arguing that the economy is continuing to recover and highlighting the administration’s efforts to improve the auto, manufacturing and housing industries.
