Paris attacks to lead Sunday shows
The terror attacks at a satirical publication in Paris will dominate the Sunday show line-up this week, as a host of legal and intelligence experts weigh in.
Earlier this month, a pair of gunmen killed 12 people in an attack at the offices of Charlie Hebdo, a weekly newspaper that had previously published cartoons of Muhammad. The pair were eventually killed by police following a hostage standoff.
The attacks have led to wide recriminations across the globe against Islamic extremism, and have reinvigorated debate in the U.S. about the effectiveness of national security policies.
Here’s the lineup:
ABC’s “This Week”: Rob Wainwright, the head of the Europol police agency, will offer his take on the attacks and efforts to protect against future terror acts. Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.), a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee and an Iraq War veteran, will also be a guest. Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) will be on hand to discuss 2016 politics.
NBC’s “Meet the Press”: Charlie Hebdo’s editor-in-chief, Gerard Biard, will be the headline guest, discussing the attack, its aftermath, and the newspaper’s efforts to continue publishing. White House adviser Dan Pfeiffer and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) will also appear — Graham has been a fierce critic of the White House handling of Muslim captives.
CBS’s “Face the Nation”: CBS will welcome British Prime Minister David Cameron for his take on the attacks and the state of security in Europe. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), a potential presidential candidate who criticized the White House for not sending top-ranking officials to a unity rally in Paris following the attacks, will also be a guest. Pfeiffer will also appear.
CNN’s “State of the Union”: Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.), the new head of the Senate Intelligence Committee, will be CNN’s headline guest. Burr has said the rising number of terrorist groups across the globe amount to a “war on Western civilization,” and warned that attacks could come weekly in Europe thanks to a number of sleeper cells there. Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), a member of the Foreign Relations Committee, and Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah), the new head of the House Oversight Committee, will also offer their takes.
“Fox News Sunday”: On Fox, Sens. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) and Ben Cardin (D-Md.) will continue the debate about security and efforts to combat Islamic extremists across the globe.
