Super Bowl security no game

Federal and state officials said Sunday that the Super Bowl, hosted in Arizona, is prepared for any security threat.

“We feel good about where we are right now. We’re ready for a great day here,” Arizona Governor Doug Ducey (R) said on ABC’s “This Week.”

{mosads}Officials told ABC there will be a 30-mile radius of restricted airspace around the stadium, and any rogue aircraft will be shot down. There will also be bomb-sniffing dogs, radiation detectors, surveillance cameras, undercover officers and nearby SWAT teams to protect the more than 65,000 fans expected.

Jeh Johnson, Homeland Security secretary, encouraged the public to be vigilant.

“We want the public engaged in our efforts. We want public participation, public vigilance,” he told ABC.

Johnson said he was not asked to secure the footballs, in reference to “Deflategate” — the controversy over whether the New England Patriots had purposely deflated their footballs to make them easier to catch.

“Nor do I have a team I’m rooting for. I’m rooting for a safe and successful event,” he said.

Ducey sidestepped questions on Deflategate. “Let’s let the players take care of it on the field. That’s how I look at it,” he said.

A National Football League Players Association representative also sidestepped questions over how well NFL Commission Roger Goodell is handling several controversies, such as the Ray Rice domestic violence case, this year.

“I don’t have the luxury to be Roger Goodell’s boss,” said George Atallah, the association’s assistant executive director of external affairs. “We would obviously love to have a better working relationship with the NFL.”

“The focus for those four hours is going to be on the game. And then once that game ends, we’ll look to hopefully in the offseason fix some of these issues that we’ve got and make it a better business for our fans, for our players and for our sponsors,” he added.
