Romney to host exclusive Utah retreat for top donors

Mitt Romney is looking to continue his fundraising momentum with an exclusive day-long retreat later this month in Utah.

According to multiple media reports, the Romney campaign has invited a select group of high-dollar donors to an event in Park City, Utah, billed as the “First National Romney Victory Leadership Retreat.”

{mosads}According to CNN, around 300 people who have contributed at least $50,000 to the Romney campaign are expected to attend the event, which will be held in two weeks. The top fundraisers are expected to congregate at the Deer Valley resort, where they will be briefed on the status of the campaign.

Romney has strong ties to the region after leading the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics, in addition to networking through his Mormon faith. In fact, Romney was in the state raising money Friday night, hosting a dinner and reception for donors.

The news of the exclusive retreat came just days after the Romney campaign announced it raised $77 million last month, outpacing the effort by President Barack Obama’s re-election team. 

“We are encouraged by the financial support from a broad range of voters,” said Romney finance chairman Spencer Zwick in a statement. “To them, whether they are Republican, Democrat, Independent, a first time political donor, or a former Obama donor, this is not just a campaign; it’s an opportunity for the country. It is clear that people aren’t willing to buy into ‘hope & change’ again. Voters are making an investment because they believe that it will benefit the country.”
