Poll finds immigration not top issue for Hispanic voters
{mosads}Those who were born outside the United States, or who had a parent born internationally, were more than twice as likely to say immigration was their most important issue than Hispanic registered voters who are second-generation Americans.
The poll comes as immigration issues have ensnarled the presidential race. Earlier this month, President Obama earned praise from many in the Hispanic community for announcing that he was halting deportations for some illegal immigrants who came to the United States as children.
On Monday, the Supreme Court announced a split decision on a challenge to Arizona legislation that targeted illegal immigrants. The court struck down three of the four provisions under review, but upheld part of the legislation that would allow police to ask for documentation proving legal status.
President Obama continues to hold a commanding lead over Romney with registered Hispanic voters. Romney was the choice of 66 percent, versus just 25 percent for Romney.
