Judiciary chairman: Clinton likely broke the law
Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said this week that Hillary Clinton likely broke the law regarding her use of a personal email account.
Grassley acknowledged in an interview Tuesday that Clinton’s private server for email was wiped clean and she was found to have used multiple devices for email while secretary of State.
{mosads}”I think they all fall into one great big mistake she made and it could be a violation of law, probably is a violation of law,” Grassley said on Newsmax TV’s “The Steve Malzberg Show.”
“Some people are suggesting she could even be prosecuted, and it’s as simple as this — she was using a private email address instead of a government one and it probably violates the Freedom of Information Act, it probably violates national security legislation legislation,” Grassley said.
Given revelations of Clinton’s private server, Grassley renewed his push last month for information from the State Department regarding a longtime Clinton aide following “largely unresponsive” answers since 2013.
“Are they faithfully executing the laws? If they were, then there’s no reason to hide anything,” Grassley told Newsmax, suggesting Clinton and her aides were less than forthcoming for congressional oversight.
Clinton, who is expected to launch a Democratic presidential bid within weeks, has faced a barrage of questions over her use of private email during her tenure at State, from 2009-2013.
Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) has asked Clinton to testify before his committee investigating Benghazi before May 1.
