Pope Francis spotlights persecution of Christians
Pope Francis shone a spotlight on the persecution of Christians worldwide in his Saturday vigil Mass leading up to Easter Sunday.
Francis prayed for Christians who have been killed or suffered because of their faith, according to news reports.
He used his homily to say that the Easter mystery of Christ’s death and resurrection, requires followers to seek an answer “to the questions which challenge our faith, our fidelity and our very existence.”
{mosads}The message has been a main focus of his Easter weekend Masses and is one he is expected to raise again Sunday.
On Thursday, the Islamic extremist group al-Shabab targeted Christians and killed 148 during an assault on Garissa University College.
In recent months, Francis has expressed growing concern about attacks on Christians in the Middle East and other areas around the world.
