Obama to visit South Dakota, his 50th state as president
President Obama will visit his 50th state as president in May when he travels to South Dakota for the first time to give the commencement address at a technical college.
{mosads}Obama broke the news to KSFY Sioux Falls’s Nancy Naeve during an interview at the White House on Monday, adding that the school’s high graduation rate contributed to his decision to visit.
“I can’t let my South Dakota friends feel neglected,” Obama said in an excerpt aired by the network.
Obama hasn’t been to the state since an appearance on the campaign trail in 2008. Jim Hagen, the state’s secretary of tourism, told New York Magazine earlier this year that he’s convinced Obama is “saving the best for last.”
