Hillary Clinton did not reply to direct questioning from congressional investigators over whether she was using a private email server in 2012, according to the New York Times.
The Times reports that Clinton, who announced her bid for the White House on Sunday, faced the question in a letter from Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) in December 2012 (see below for letter). Issa was chairman of the House Oversight Committee at the time.
{mosads}According to the Times, the letter asked, “Have you or any senior agency official ever used a personal email account to conduct official business? If so, please identify the account used.”
Clinton did not reply to the letter, and a response from the State Department in March 2013 — after Clinton left her post as secretary of State — did not address the question, instead discussing the agency’s email policies.
Clinton admitted in March she had used a personal email account during her entire tenure at State.
