Headstone of Clinton’s father toppled
The headstone of Hillary Clinton’s father was reported toppled earlier this week in a Scranton, Pa., cemetery, according to police.
Police Chief Carl Graziano told the Scranton Times-Tribune it was unknown how Hugh Rodham’s grave stone was knocked over, but suggested it could have been vandals. It would have occured within days of Clinton announcing her White House bid on Sunday.
{mosads}The fallen headstone was discovered Monday, and police are treating the incident as suspicious, according to local CBS affiliate WYOU.
A man was taken from the cemetery Monday for a mental health evaluation, though police could not directly link him to the fallen headstone, according to WYOU.
Caretaker Paul McGloin said the stone had been secure Friday, then had to be righted Tuesday afternoon, according to the Tribune.
Clinton announced her much-anticipated 2016 presidential campaign via a Web video and social media launch ahead of her road trip to the early voting state of Iowa this week.
Clinton’s biography posted to her campaign website on Sunday describes her father, who owned a textile business in Scranton and died in 1993 at the age of 82, as “a rock-ribbed Republican, a pay-as-you-go kind of guy who worked hard and wasted nothing.”
