‘Right-wing extremists’ accused of targeting feds
Federal law enforcement authorities on Tuesday began investigating the apparent leak of private data from officials at multiple government agencies.
CBS News reported that the list included information about senior and former administrators at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and other bureaucracies. It also contained home addresses for the targeted individuals, CBS added.
“The safety of our workforce is always a primary concern,” DHS said in a statement.
{mosads}“DHS has notified employees who were identified in the posting and encouraged them to be vigilant,” it added. “DHS will adjust security measures, as appropriate, to protect our employees.”
CBS said the leaked list was titled “DHS-CIA-FBI TRAITORS HOME ADDRESSES.” It added that investigators believed a “right-wing extremist group” was behind the posting, based on its content.
“LET THESE EVIL NWO SATANISTS KNOW THAT THERE WILL BE HELL TO PAY FOR THEIR 911 TREASON, AND THEIR FUTURE FEMA CAMP PLANNED PUBLIC CRACKDOWN TREASON ALSO,” the leak allegedly said, referencing 9/11 and 2005’s federal response to Hurricane Katrina.
“JESUS IS LORD, AND THE PUBLIC IS IN CHARGE, NOT THESE SANTANIC NWO STOOGES,” the message purportedly concluded.
Tuesday’s leak follows a similar posting late last month. During that incident, hackers claiming affiliation with the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria published a list of private information taken from 100 U.S. military members.
“The Islamic State Hacking Division” claimed it had breached American military servers for the data. After its release, they called for supporters to attack the personnel documented in the post.
Investigators disputed claims there was a successful hacking last month. They said that leakers likely compiled personal details from news reports, social media and other public records.
So far, neither leak has resulted in any reported attacks. CBS said federal investigators are actively pursuing the source or sources of Wednesday’s disclosure.
