White House concerned about DEA leadership
The White House on Thursday would not offer a vote of confidence to the head of the Drug Enforcement Administration, who is in hot water over reports agents engaged in illegal sex parties funded by drug cartels.
Asked if President Obama remains confident in DEA administrator Michele Leonhart, White House press secretary Josh Earnest said the president has “high expectations for everyone who serves in this government.”
{mosads}“At this point, we do have concerns about what’s been reported by the Office of Inspector General,” Earnest said.
Last month, a Justice Department inspector general report found that 10 agents participated in “loud” parties with prostitutes between 2005 and 2008. The parties were allegedly arranged by a foreign police officer and paid for with cartel money.
Republican and Democratic lawmakers have called for new leadership at the DEA.
Earnest said Obama supports the efforts of the Department of Justice to address the situation.
