Clinton joked about ‘cracked head’
Hillary Clinton joked in one of the emails released by the State Department on Friday that she had a “cracked head” thanks to a fall and ensuing concussion that forced her to skip a Capitol Hill hearing on the 2012 Benghazi attacks.
“I’m so sorry that I cannot be on the Hill today as we had long planned, but very grateful that you both will be. The State Department and I appreciate your leadership everyday,” the then-secretary wrote to Bill Burns and Tom Nides, two State officials who appeared at the hearing.
{mosads}“I’ll be nursing my cracked head and cheering you on as you ‘remain calm and carry on.’”
Nides, then a deputy secretary of State, responded: “Thanks I wish I could tell u I am looking forward to this but it would be a lie! Get better…”
State announced in December 2012 that she fell and hit her head, which gave her a concussion. She later discovered a small blood clot in her head during a follow-up appointment on the concussion, which she treated with blood thinners.
The State Department released the email exchange in the first round of messages from Clinton’s private email address, which she used exclusively for government business while at State.
