Graham: Caitlyn Jenner ‘welcome’ in the Republican Party
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) says Caitlyn Jenner is welcome in the Republican Party.
In an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union” that aired Sunday, the presidential candidate commented on Jenner, formerly Bruce, who recently made her debut after completing a gender transition.
“If Caitlyn Jenner wants to be safe and have a prosperous economy, vote for me. I’m into addition. I haven’t walked in her shoes. I don’t have all the answers to the mysteries of life. I can only imagine the torment that Bruce Jenner went through. I hope she has found peace,” Graham said.
{mosads}“I’m a pro-life, traditional marriage kind of guy. But I’m running to be president of the United States. If Caitlyn Jenner wants to be a Republican, she is welcome in my party,” he added.
As Bruce, Jenner had identified as a Republican.
Asked if the GOP should reach out to transgender Americans, Graham said, “We’re all in this together.”
“Understanding what you’re getting with Lindsey Graham: I’m pro-life. I believe in traditional marriage without animosity. The courts are going to rule, probably in June, about traditional marriage. I will accept the court’s decision. I will proudly defend the unborn. But if we can’t agree on abortion, let’s talk about taxes.”
On ABC News’s “This Week,” Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) was asked if he agreed with President Obama about Jenner coming out being an act of courage.
“Well, I think it’s a personal decision. And to me, I don’t know that there’s anything more to comment on. It’s a personal decision,” said Walker, who said he plans to announce his 2016 intentions after the end of the month.
