Obama jokes about Trump on ‘Daily Show’

President Obama joked about Donald Trump’s newfound status as the frontrunner of the Republican presidential primary field during his final appearance on “The Daily Show” with Jon Stewart.

The comedian asked Obama if, after nearly seven years in office, he has advice “to bequeath to future President Trump?” Obama flashed a big smile.

{mosads}“Well, I’m sure the Republicans are enjoying Mr. Trump’s current dominance of their primary,” the president said.

“Anything that makes them look less crazy,” Stewart responded.

A new Washington Post/ABC News poll showed Trump surging into the lead of the crowded GOP primary field. Twenty-four percent of Republican voters picked Trump as their favorite candidates.

That’s nearly double the support of the second-place finisher, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, at 13 percent.

Obama has frequently joked about Trump, who has questioned whether the president was actually born in the United States.

After Obama released his birth certificate in 2011, he took aim at Trump during his speech at the White House Correspondents’ Association annual dinner while the real-estate mogul was sitting in the audience.

“Now, I know that he’s taken some flak lately but no one is prouder to put this birth certificate matter to rest than The Donald,” Obama said. “And that’s because he can finally get back to focusing on the issues that matter, like, did we fake the moon landing? What really happened in Roswell? And where are Biggie and Tupac?”

He recalled his takedown of Trump during this year’s dinner, saying “Donald Trump is here. Still.”
