Univision CEO attacks Trump for ‘complete disregard’ for Hispanics

Univision’s CEO defended anchor Jorge Ramos and called GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump’s treatment of the newsman “beneath contempt,” a day after the two clashed at a news conference.

Trump had Ramos removed from the event Tuesday evening after Ramos attempted to ask a question without being called on, telling him to “Go back to Univision.”

Ramos was later allowed to return but faced harsh words from the candidate.

{mosads}“The treatment that Jorge Ramos received at Mr. Trump’s press conference in Iowa is beneath contempt,” Univision CEO Randy Falco said in a Wednesday night statement.

“As a Presidential candidate, Mr. Trump is going to get tough questions from the press and has to answer them.”

Falco lauded Ramos as “one of the most professional, dedicated and respected journalists I have seen.”

He added that the billionaire business mogul “demonstrated complete disregard for him and for the countless Hispanics whom Jorge seeks to represent through press questions that are at the heart of the First Amendment.”

When he was allowed back in the Tuesday event, Ramos asked Trump about his immigration platform.

“How are you going to deport 11 million?” the reporter asked. “Are you going to bring the army?”

“We’re going to do it in a very humane way,” Trump replied. “I have a bigger heart than you do.”

The candidate returned to Ramos moments later and said, “Do you know how many Hispanics work for me? Thousands. You know how many Hispanics have worked for me over the years? Tens of thousands.”

Ramos said Wednesday he was offended by the presidential candidate’s immigration rhetoric.

“It is extreme what he is saying about immigrants in this country,” said Ramos, who has dual citizenship with both the U.S. and Mexico. “This is not just his country. It is our country, too.”
