Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on Monday expressed irritation with Major League Baseball for not rescinding its ban on Pete Rose joining the Hall of Fame.
“Can’t believe Major League Baseball just rejected @PeteRose_14 for the Hall of Fame. He’s paid the price. So ridiculous – let him in!” Trump tweeted Monday evening.
MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred announced in a report earlier in the day that he had rejected Rose’s request for reinstatement and would uphold a lifetime ban imposed in 1989.
{mosads}”In short, Mr. Rose has not presented credible evidence of a reconfigured life either by an honest acceptance by him of his wrongdoing … or by a rigorous, self-aware and sustained program of avoidance by him of all the circumstances that led to his permanent ineligibility in 1989,” Manfred wrote.
Rose was banned amid reports that he had bet on baseball games while managing the Cincinnati Reds and supporters have long pushed for his inclusion in the Hall of Fame.
Rose has more hits than any player in history.
