Cruz: ‘Radical Islam is at war with us’
Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz on Tuesday said there is a “war” between the United States and “radical Islam,” in the aftermath of a terrorist attack in Brussels that killed at least 34.
“Radical Islam is at war with us,” Cruz said in a Facebook post that criticized President Obama, accusing him of refusing “to acknowledge this reality.”
{mosads}Cruz said that if elected president, “we will name our enemy — radical Islamic terrorism.”
He also argued that “these terror attacks are no isolated incidents.”
Obama administration officials have long pushed back on characterizations of the fight against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) as a “war” between the U.S. and Islam.
Obama, who is expected to speak on the attack later Tuesday, insisted last year that “we will never be at war with Islam.”
GOP front-runner Donald Trump on Tuesday emphasized securing the United States’s southern border to prevent such an attack, while John Kasich said he was “sickened” by the terrorist blasts.
