Mass. Dem compares Trump’s rise to Hitler

Rep. Seth Moulton (D-Mass.) this week compared Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s rise to that of Adolf Hitler in Germany in the 1930s.

“People should read the history … and just try to understand the analogies,” Moulton said during in interview with the Boston Globe at Suffolk University on Wednesday.

{mosads}”I’m not saying that Donald Trump is necessarily Hitler, I’m not saying that. But you ought to understand how an unbelievably educated, advanced society can elect a demagogue and how bad it can get as a result.”

Moulton suggested it would be “dangerous” to think Trump’s experience in reality TV, which the businessman has pointed to explain away some of his past controversial remarks, should justify the candidate’s rhetoric.

“I think we’ve got to be really concerned when someone, regardless of his stature as a reality TV star or whatever else, says things that are fundamentally opposed to our values and to who we are as Americans,” Moulton said.

Moulton, an Iraq War veteran, also knocked Trump’s rhetoric on aggressively going after terrorists in the Middle East.

“He has absolutely no idea how to fight terrorists without creating more terrorists in the process,” Moulton said. “So his ideas are not only radical, ridiculous and immoral, they’re also really stupid.”
