Boehner cursed at Reid outside Oval Office meeting
{mosads}On Friday, congressional leaders were summoned to a meeting with the president at the White House. Also in attendance were House Minority leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), Vice President Biden and Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner.
According to CNN, Boehner made the comment to Reid as he sat on a couch with McConnell outside the Oval Office before the meeting. Reid responded by laughing, although was apparently miffed by Boehner’s response. Politico first reported the exchange.
Despite the heated exchange, both Boehner’s office and Reid later described the meeting as constructive.
“There was not a lot of hilarity in the meeting, everyone knows how important it is,” Reid said in a floor speech. “It was a very serious meeting and it took an extended period of time.”
The House approved the Senate fiscal cliff bill Wednesday night on a 257-167 vote. The late-night vote will indefinitely extend the George W. Bush-era tax cuts on all household income under $450,000, extend unemployment insurance and delay automatic spending cuts for another two months.
