Concerns about race relations hit new high

Americans’ concerns over race relations are at the highest point in 15 years, according to a new poll.

{mosads}Thirty-five percent say they worry about the issue “a great deal” in the Gallup survey released early Monday.

{mosads}That result is up 7 points from last year.

In 2014, just 17 percent answered in similar fashion.

Gallup questioned 1,019 adults from March 2 to 6 for the new poll, which has a 4 percent margin of error.

Gallup began polling Americans about race relations in 2001, when 28 percent said they fretted about the topic “a great deal.”

Gallup late last month found that race relations rank low among national concerns for Americans, however.

Healthcare affordability and availability tied with the economy for the nation’s greatest concern, with 55 percent apiece.

“Crime and violence” ranked a close third, at 53 percent, while 48 percent chose the possibility of future U.S. terrorist attacks.
