A Minnesota state senator wants the official state color to be purple in honor of legendary superstar Prince, who died Thursday at the age of the 57.

{mosads}Sen. Karin Housley (R) told the St. Paul Pioneer Press that she plans to introduce the bill Monday to honor the “Purple Rain” artist.

The lawmaker said it’d be a fitting tribute “for a man that was born, raised, lived and died in Minnesota and gave so much to the people of our state as an artist and member of our community.”

She added: “He was ours.”

Minnesota does not currently have an official state color.

This report was corrected at 3:12 p.m. to reflect that Gov. Mark Dayton has not said whether he would support the bill.
