Mark Zuckerberg to host fundraiser for Chris Christie
The fundraiser is scheduled for Feb. 13 during a fundraising trip for Christie outside of his home state and will be at Zuckerberg’s home in Palo Alto, Calif.
{mosads}”Mark and Priscilla have worked closely with Governor Christie on education reform in the Newark school system,” Facebook spokeswoman Sarah Feinberg said in a statement.
“They admire his leadership on education reform and other issues and look forward to continuing their important work together on behalf of Newark’s school children. Mark and Priscilla are happy to host him at their home to support his reelection.” Christie is seeking a second term as New Jersey governor this year.
In 2010, Zuckerberg donated $100 million to the Newark public school system. Since then, the social media mogul has worked with Christie and Newark Mayor Cory Booker (D) on improving education in the state.
Although Zuckerberg has been quiet about his political leanings, he has expressed support for President Obama and hosted an online town hall with the president in 2011.
Facebook has also recently ramped up its lobbying efforts in Washington. The company spent roughly $4 million on lobbying in 2012, up from $1.3 million in 2011.
