WWE star Kane ‘seriously considering’ run for office in Tenn.
Professional wrestler Glenn Jacobs says he is “seriously considering” running for the Knox County, Tenn., mayoral seat in 2018.
But Jacobs, who wrestles under the ring name “Kane,” said he would decide after this fall’s presidential election whether he will run for office.
{mosads}“Yes, I’ve talked about it with some folks, but there’s nothing too solid yet,” he told WBIR 10News.
Jacobs, a former WWE Champion who would run as a Republican, said he is seriously considering running for office because he cares about the community and wants to spur change.
“I think the most important thing is I care very deeply about this community, like a lot of people do. And that’s the only reason I would consider getting into any sort of government, because I do care very deeply,” he said.
“And I think it’s incumbent upon people who care about the communities to try to make a difference.”
Jacobs said he lives in Knoxville because he loves the area.
“I love the people. I think they have great values and I think they have common sense,” he said.
“And for me, the political philosophy should reflect that — to keep Knox County a great place to live and a great place to raise a family.”
Jacobs also said he doesn’t think his lack of political experience would hurt him too much.
“I think at this point, the fact that someone doesn’t have a lot of political experience is a plus,” he said. “We’re seeing that in the presidential election. People are tired of business as usual; they’re tired of politicians.”
