Trump considering trip to Israel before convention: report

Donald Trump is considering visiting Israel sometime before he claims the Republican party’s presidential nominating convention in late July, according to a new report.

Four sources briefed on the discussions told New York Magazine that the presumptive nominee is considering the trip to solidify his support among Middle-East hawks and Jewish conservatives.

{mosads}Sources cited by the magazine said Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and associates of casino magnet Sheldon Adelson were organizing the potential trip.

The sources cautioned that plans for the trip had yet to be finalized, and a Trump spokeswoman told the magazine the candidate has no current plans to visit Israel.

There has been speculation for weeks that Trump might visit the country this summer.

An Israeli newspaper reported in early May that Trump was planning a visit after the Republican National Convention. A Trump aide at the time denied to The Hill that the report was true.

Trump canceled a trip to Israel in December, after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu criticized his proposal to temporarily ban Muslims from entering the United States.

Trump then caught flak in February for declaring he was staying “neutral” in the Palestinian conflict. He argued such a position would provide leverage to secure a peace deal.

Since then he’s made an appeal to members of the Jewish community, including delivering a speech at the The American Israel Public Affairs Committee conference in March.

A Trump spokeswoman on Tuesday confirmed he would travel to Scotland later this month for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at his golf course, his first reported overseas trip since becoming the presumptive Republican nominee.
