Barney Frank rips Trump’s ‘self-indulgence’

Former Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) on Sunday said presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump is too narcissistic for the presidency. 

{mosads}“I think Donald Trump, frankly, has not shown the seriousness you need in the president of the United States,” he said on “The Cats Roundtable” radio show with John Catsimatidis.

“There’s a self-indulgence there, and an immaturity does not qualify him to be president. I think in the end people will realize that,” Frank said. “You’ve got to be more responsible when you’re the president.”

Frank noted reluctance from establishment Republicans to back Trump, arguing it does not bode well for the billionaire’s credibility.

“I think it’s very important for us have a healthy two-party competition, but Donald Trump just does not live up to that,” he said.

“Everybody who has run for president as a Republican recently — both Presidents Bush, Mitt Romney, Bob Dole, John McCain — they’re all skeptical,” Frank added. “I just think the inconsistency and the kind of wild nature of some of the things just does not augur well. I think it is striking.” 

Frank said Trump would ultimately wear out voters once they realize the businessman is all style, no substance. 

“I think in the end people are going to say, ‘You know what? This is the presidency of the United States,’ ” he said. ” ‘It’s not a reality show; we’re not here to be entertained. This is very serious business.’ “

“I think Hillary Clinton’s going to win,” added Frank, who has endorsed the Democratic presidential front-runner. “I don’t think he’s going to meet the test that people are going to want him to meet for that.” 

Clinton leads Trump by about 2 percentage points nationwide, according to the latest RealClearPolitics average of polls.
