Michelle Obama: ‘It’s time for us to come together’

Michelle Obama on Tuesday urged Americans to unite in wake of the mass shooting in Orlando that left 49 people dead and 53 wounded.

“We have to remember those that we lost in Orlando as well as those who are injured and all of their loved ones and know that we will all continue to keep them in our thoughts and prayers,” the first lady said during a conversation with Oprah at the United States of Women Summit at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C.

{mosads}”But the one thing I just want us all to know that at tragic times like these, in this country, it’s time for us to come together, to love each other, to support each other and not tear each other down.”

Obama said she hopes that is one of the ideas the country takes away from the tragedy.

The attack early Sunday morning at Pulse, a gay nightclub, was the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.

The suspect, Omar Mateen, was killed in a shootout with police inside the club.

The incident sparked some lawmakers and presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton to renew their calls for stricter gun control measures.

Earlier Tuesday, President Obama issued a rebuke of Donald Trump, slamming the presumptive GOP nominee and his proposal to temporarily ban Muslims from entering the country.
