Mark Cuban donating $1M to Dallas police

Mark Cuban plans to donate $1 million for the Dallas Police Department’s stepped up security efforts following the deadly mass shooting in Orlando this week.

The billionaire Dallas Mavericks owner informed Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings of the donation on Wednesday, according to a news release from the city distributed on Twitter.

{mosads}“Once again, Mark has demonstrated his devotion to his city by stepping up in a time of need,” Rawlings said in a statement.

The mayor praised Cuban as “a man of action” compared to “empty talk from politicians” following national tragedies.

Dallas Police Chief David Brown said the funds would be primarily used to protect the LGBT community and go toward an estimated 16,000 hours of police overtime work for counterterrorism efforts.

Cuban has flirted with jumping into politics, pointing to the success of fellow celebrity businessman Donald Trump, now the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.

His donation comes three days after a man who claimed allegiance to Islamic militants gunned down 49 people at a gay nightclub in Orlando, prompting stepped-up security around the country.
