Florida governor gets call from Obama

Florida Gov. Rick Scott (R) took a call from President Obama on Wednesday afternoon, three days after a mass shooting at a nightclub in Orlando.

“The President called to offer his condolences. Governor Scott reiterated his request for the Emergency Declaration requested on Monday,” Scott spokeswoman Lauren Schenone told The Hill.

{mosads}Scott’s office released a revised public schedule Wednesday that noted a call with Obama shortly before 1 p.m. Details on how long the call lasted were not provided.

Scott was slated to appear at a press conference less than an hour after the call was scheduled to take place for authorities to provide an update on the shooting investigation.

A spokeswoman for Scott confirmed to the Herald/Times that Scott would be on the tarmac for Obama’s arrival in Orlando on Thursday to mourn the victims of the attack.

Obama will pay respect to the families of the shooting that left 49 people killed and dozens more injured in what the FBI has called a hate crime and act of terrorism.

Scott and other top officials in his administration publicly noted in media appearances as recently as Wednesday morning that there hadn’t been a phone call between the pair.

Scott, a critic of Obama over the years, said during a Fox News appearance Tuesday morning that a White House staffer had called but not Obama personally, saying President George W. Bush had called him.
