CLEVELAND — Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) was booed on the floor of the GOP convention after Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus put his name forward to act as temporary convention chairman.
The motion to appoint McConnell as temporary chairman until Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) takes over was approved in a voice vote by a strong majority of the thousands of delegates gathered at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland as the Republican National Convention got underway.
{mosads}But a loud contingent booed McConnell and continued to protest when Priebus announced that the motion to appoint him as temporary chairman had passed.
“It was pretty clear [the vote passed],” Priebus told those who booed.
McConnell was not on hand for the episode.
The Quicken Loans arena is buzzing with thousands of delegates, alternate delegates and party officials who are poised to make Donald Trump the Republican nominee for president.
