Report: Romney invites donors to Utah retreat

Mitt Romney is inviting donors and business leaders to a policy retreat in Park City, Utah this June, the latest sign the former Republican presidential nominee is remaining active in the public arena.

Romney, the 2012 GOP standard bearer, sent emails on Friday inviting people to the four-day event called “Experts and Enthusiasts 2013,” according to media reports.

{mosads}The email said the event would be an opportunity “to hear from political, business and other thought leaders.”

“As we only have capacity for a small group of people to be part of this gathering, invitations will be kept to a limited group of industry and thought leaders,” the email added. Attendees will need to pay a $5,000 registration fee.

A source said that Romney’s running mate Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie are expected to attend, CNN reported.

Romney said the event would be sponsored by Solamere Group, the investment firm founded by his son Tagg. Reports earlier this month said Romney would serve as the chairman of the executive committee for the private equity firm, marking his return to the workplace after his November election defeat.

Romney has generally kept a low profile since the election, but in recent weeks has spoken more about his loss and his hopes to remain involved in the public arena.

In an interview with Fox News earlier this month, Romney said it “kills” him not to be in the Oval Office and said he believed he could have averted the $85 billion in sequester cuts which took effect March 1.

{mossecondads}“I wish I were there.  It kills me not to be there, not to be in the White House doing what needs to be done,” Romney said in his first post-election television interview.

And last week, he addressed the Conservative Political Action Conference, a key forum for the party’s grassroots base.

“Each of us in our own way will have to step up and meet our responsibility. I am sorry that I will not be your president – but I will be your co-worker and I will stand shoulder to shoulder with you,” said Romney. “In the end, we will win just as we have won before, and for the same reason: because our cause is right … and just.”
