Sunday shows preview: Parsing the war of words
After a week of controversial accusations on the campaign trail, key figures in Donald Trump’s inner circle will open up on his view of the race so far on this week’s Sunday shows.
{mosads}Both Trump and Hillary Clinton have been aggressively campaigning against each other this week. The GOP presidential nominee repeatedly accused Clinton of being a “bigot,” while Clinton gave a major address blasting Trump for his racial rhetoric. Clinton, the Democratic nominee, tied Trump to the “alt-right” movement, accusing him of stoking racial resentments.
Trump also faced criticism for shifting on immigration, with conservatives accusing him of “backtracking” on his promises of a large-scale deportation force.
Running mate Mike Pence, Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus and campaign manager Kellyanne Conway will all make appearances on shows this week to analyze the race so far.
Here is the full lineup:
ABC’s “This Week”: New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, a close Trump aide, will discuss Trump’s immigration policies. Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Donna Brazile will also be interviewed about Clinton’s campaign.
CBS’s “Face the Nation”: Conway will sit down to discuss how Trump is adjusting his tone and presentation. Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah), the chairman of the House Oversight Committee, will weigh in on the Clinton Foundation controversy. Brazil and Ben Carson will speak about minority outreach on both sides in the upcoming election.
CNN’s “State of the Union”: Pence will be a guest on the show.
“Fox News Sunday”: Libertarian presidential nominee Gary Johnson will make an exclusive appearance on the show to discuss his strategy against Trump and Clinton. Conway will also be on the program.
NBC’s “Meet the Press”: Priebus will speak about the latest controversies surrounding the Trump campaign.
