Priebus: ‘You have to look at people’s actions’

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus sought to draw a distinction between Hillary Clinton’s and Donald Trump’s actions when asked whether he thinks Clinton, the Democratic presidential nominee, is a bigot.

“You look at Donald Trump, and you look at his actions and developing and promoting women and breaking a mold in Mar-a-Lago, which today we think is nuts, but 40 years ago he broke the mold in allowing anyone from any background, any faith, any gender, any race into Mar-a-Lago,” Priebus said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

{mosads}He was asked directly whether he thinks Clinton is a bigot, a label Trump, the Republican nominee, has plastered on her.

“You look at Hillary Clinton — she is the one that labeled African-American youth as ‘super predators,’ ” Priebus said.

Priebus continued to bash Clinton, saying her campaign and supporters “borne out the birther movement.” He also said former President Bill Clinton questioned the success of President Obama based on his race instead of his talent.

“Why can’t we start judging these people based on what they actually did?” Priebus said.

“She gave out state secrets; she talked about race in a way that’s unacceptable.”

Trump last week called Clinton a bigot “who sees people of color only as votes.”

Priebus in the interview continued to defend Trump when asked about a New York Times piece that outlines what Trump and his father may have done in the past to keep African-American tenants out of their buildings.

Priebus emphasized that the issue is not what the candidate “may have done,” but what he did do. Judging from his actions, Priebus said, Trump has “broken the mold.”

“I can tell you where his heart’s at,” Priebus said.

“I know where his heart is at.”
