National poll: Trump catches up to Clinton

Donald Trump has nearly closed Hillary Clinton’s national lead, according to the latest Reuters/Ipsos poll released Friday.  

{mosads}Clinton held 40 percent of support among likely voters, with Trump right behind at 39 percent in a head-to-head matchup.

In last week’s poll, Clinton was up by 5 points, and the week before she had a 12-point lead.

Trump has gained support among his own party’s voters, jumping up to about 78 percent. 

The survey was conducted among 1,804 likely voters between Aug. 26 and Sept. 1. It has a credibility interval of 3 percentage points.
