Capitol Visitors Center evacuated

The Capitol Visitors Center was evacuated on Friday morning.

“We have evacuated the CVC due to a suspicious package. We have not evacuated any part of the Capitol,” Capitol police spokeswoman Lt. Jessica Baboulis said.

{mosads}The evacuation comes as security screening was increased in the wake of the Boston bombings and discovery of ricin-laced letters sent to Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) this week.

On Wednesday, portions of the Hart and Russell Senate Office Buildings were locked down due to suspicious packages and envelopes that ultimately proved to be harmless.

An all-clear signal was given at around 11:30 a.m. and people were allowed back in the Capitol complex.
