Van Susteren references ‘suspicious checks’ in post about Ailes
Former Fox News anchor Greta Van Susteren is blaming 21st Century Fox for not supervising former network CEO Roger Ailes, who was forced out amid sexual harassment allegations.
Van Susteren in a Facebook post made reference to “checks written that were suspicious” that she thought should have been “spotted” by company heads. She did not elaborate.
{mosads}”I regret that Roger Ailes was not supervised by those in a public corporation who had the duty to supervise him,” Van Susteren wrote in a Facebook post Friday.
“This included his seniors, the CFO’s of both Fox News Channel and [21st Century Fox] (and its predecessor NewsCorp), the Board of Directors and what I assume this public corporation had, outside auditors. Checks written that were suspicious should have been spotted.”
The Hill has contacted attorneys for Ailes for comment.
Van Susteren on Tuesday abruptly ended her 14-year career at Fox News, stating that Fox has “not felt like home” for “a few years.”
She has clashed publicly with the network in recent days, on Thursday writing that Fox had taken down her personal photos and videos without any notice.
In the Facebook post Friday, Van Susteren said she regrets not believing former anchor’s Gretchen Carlson’s allegation of sexual harassment against Ailes. A lawsuit brought by Carlson ended in a $20 million dollar settlement last week.
“It is indeed true, when I read the complaint written by lawyers — I never spoke to Gretchen as she was long gone from Fox — I found it inconsistent with what was my experience and information at the Fox News Channel, admittedly working 200 miles from the ‘scene of the crimes.’ It was hidden from all of us.”
Another Fox News personality, Geraldo Rivera, on Thursday also said that he regrets defending Ailes, saying he felt “blindsided” by the scandal.
