Clinton praises NCAA for pulling out of events in NC

Hillary Clinton on Tuesday praised the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s (NCAA) decision to pull championship events from North Carolina over the state’s controversial bathroom law.

The Democratic presidential nominee tweeted that the NCAA made the “right” call, adding, “Discrimination has no place in America.”

{mosads}The NCAA announced on Monday that it would relocate seven championship events it previously awarded to North Carolina in the coming academic year over the law barring transgender people from using public restrooms matching the gender with which they identify.

“Fairness is about more than the opportunity to participate in college sports, or even compete for championships,” NCAA President Mark Emmert said in a statement announcing the move.

The NCAA also criticized the North Carolina law allowing legal protections for employers refusing services and laws barring local governments from passing their own anti-discrimination protections.

The National Basketball Association announced in July that it would pull its All-Star Game from the Tar Heel State in protest of the bathroom law.
