NYPD looking into reports of Weiner relationship with teen

The New York City Police Department (NYPD) is looking into allegations that former Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) engaged in an inappropriate relationship online with a 15-year-old girl. 

{mosads}The Daily Mail reported Wednesday that Weiner had exchanged sexually suggestive messages with the high school student over the course of several months. 

A spokesman for the NYPD told Politico “detectives are looking into” the report.

Weiner said he had “likely been the subject of a hoax” when confronted by The Daily Mail. But he voiced remorse over repeatedly engaging in sexual discussions online.

“I have no one to blame but me for putting myself in this position. I am sorry.”

Weiner, 52, sent multiple bare-chested photos of himself to the girl, commented on the girl’s body and discussed sexual acts with her, according to saved messages provided to The Daily Mail by the girl and her father.

The former lawmaker also reportedly corresponded with the girl across multiple messaging platforms, including Facebook, Skype and Twitter.

Weiner’s relationship with the girl began in January, while she was a high school sophomore, the report said.

The girl told The Daily Mail she began feeling guilty about talking with Weiner in April, ultimately confessing to her father and a teacher. But Weiner and she kept in touch until July.

The girl and her father said they decided to share her story publicly in case Weiner was messaging other underage girls.

Weiner’s wife, Huma Abedin, announced she was separating from him late last month after a different sexting controversy ensnared the former congressman.

Weiner’s political career ended after the first of several sexting scandals emerged in 2011.

The recurring scandals have complicated Abedin’s role as a top aide to Hilary Clinton, the Democratic presidential nominee.
