Reports: Texas officials open criminal probe into fertilizer plant explosion
Texas officials opened a criminal investigation on Friday into the deadly fertilizer explosion in West, Texas, according to multiple media reports.
The Texas Department of Public Safety (TPDS) did not return a request for comment from The Hill.
{mosads}The April blast killed 14 people, most of them first responders, and injured more than 100. It leveled the small town of West for blocks.
The news comes just hours after reports that a West, Texas, paramedic was arrested by federal officials for possessing an explosive device. The reports stressed that federal officials have not said if the case is related to the fertilizer plant investigation.
“This disaster has severely impacted the community of West, and we want to ensure that no stone goes unturned and that all the facts related to this incident are uncovered,” TPDS Director Steven McCraw told The Dallas Morning News in a statement.
