Rep. Doris Matsui (D-Calif.) is expected to be released from a hospital Friday after being injured in a car accident the day before, according to The Associated Press.
{mosads}The AP reported that Matsui suffered internal bleeding and bruised ribs when the vehicle she was in was struck by another car.
The California Democrat, who was sitting in the back seat, underwent surgery to stop the internal bleeding.
Neither driver involved was injured.
Matsui’s spokeswoman, Lauren Dart, told the AP that the 72-year-old was told to rest and avoid travel for a few weeks. Matsui had planned to attend a fundraiser on Sunday with Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Kaine.
