Arpaio pleads not guilty to criminal contempt
Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio pleaded not guilty Friday to a criminal contempt charge, according to a report by the Associated Press.
On Tuesday, Arpaio, a controversial figure in Arizona politics and prominent Donald Trump supporter, was charged with criminal contempt of court after allegedly violating a judge’s order to halt immigration patrols.
In 2013, a federal court found that Arpaio infringed on the rights of Latinos by racially profiling them in targeted traffic stops.
Arpaio has served as the sheriff of Maricopa County Arizona since 1993. He is currently up for reelection.
