Ellison: ‘No way in the world’ Trump aids workers
Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) says President-elect Donald Trump will ultimately hurt American workers.
“No way in the world is Trump a champion of working people,” he told host Chuck Todd on NBC’s “Meet the Press” Sunday.
{mosads}“He’s hurt workers in Las Vegas and Atlantic City,” added Ellison, who endorsed Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. “He has never released his tax returns.”
Ellison refused to comment on whether Clinton’s husband, former President Bill Clinton, hurt her with blue-collar voters for his past work on global trade deals.
“I’m not going to get up here and cast doubt on Democrats,” he said when asked about Bill Clinton signing the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
“I think [Trump] was skilled at keeping the attention on anyone but himself. Negative campaigning — people do it because it works. Him doing that had an impact.”
Ellison added that Democrats must reconnect with American workers.
“Our job is to make people realize the Democratic Party is the party working for them,” said Ellison, a rumored candidate for chairman of the Democratic National Committee (DNC).
“The truth is we have got to make America work for working people again. We have to have shared prosperity. We have to work together.”
