Poll: 1 in 5 Americans reports bad moods day after election
After Election Day, the percentage of Americans experiencing stress or worry matched a nine-year high, according to a new Gallup poll released Wednesday.
{mosads}Nov. 8 and the day after were the most stressful days for Americans on record since Gallup and Healthways began tracking moods in January 2008.
On Election Day, 19 percent of U.S. adults reported being in a “bad mood.” That rose to 20 percent the day after.
Before Election Day 2016, that metric had reached 19 percent or higher only three times in nine years.
On Election Day 2012, 16 percent of Americans reported a bad mood, while 13 percent reported those feelings on Election Day 2008.
The daily average of people reporting bad moods is 11 percent.
Results were based on telephone interviews conducted from 2008 through 2016, with a random sample of about 500 adults per day, aged 18 and older. The margin of error is 5 percentage points.
