2016 sees surge in babies named Hillary, Ivanka

There was a surge in 2016 of babies named Hillary and Ivanka, according to a report released by BabyCenter.

{mosads}Instances of babies being named Hillary rose by 64 percent in 2016, BuzzFeed News reported, and the number of babies named Ivanka was up 39 percent, as new parents took inspiration from the campaign race.

Hillary Clinton became the first woman to become a presidential nominee for a major political party this year, and Ivanka Trump also took center stage during her father’s winning presidential bid.

Ivanka campaigned for Donald Trump and advocated for her his child care proposals, which included six weeks of paid maternity leave for new mothers.

Use of the names of other prominent women also increased in 2016, including Ellen, which went up by 30 percent, and Venus, which rose by 26 percent.
