Student arrested in Thailand for Facebook post about new king
A law student in Thailand has been arrested for sharing a story about the country’s new king, which authorities say violates censorship laws, according to the Associated Press.
{mosads}Jatupat Boonpattararaksa, a member of the pro-democracy student group Dao Din, was arrested for posting the story about King Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun.
The story included details about the new king’s personal life and his three marriages that had ended in divorce, information that is illegal to share under Thailand’s lese majeste laws, which forbid criticism of the monarchy.
Boonpattararaksa is apparently the first to be arrested for the law under the new king, who took the throne on Thursday.
